Two Igbo Suspects Arrested For Swallowing 175 Wraps Of Cocaine

photoTwo suspects, Ugochukwu Nwafor and Chidozie Okonkwo were recently arrested by law enforcement agents for attempting to smuggle 2.880 kg of a substance believed to be cocaine out of the country.
The duo were found to have ingested 175 wraps of the hard drug during the screening of outbound passengers on a British Airways flight to London.
According to the commander of the National Drug Law Emnforcement Agency at the MMIA, Mr. Hamza Umar, while confirming the arrest, said the suspects were caught after an alarm was triggered by the scanning machines.
“The suspects tested positive to drug ingestion and were placed under observation. Nwafor ingested 73 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.395kg while Okonkwo ingested 102 wraps weighing 1.485kg. They were detected on the same flight,” Hamza said.
Nwafor, 37, a phone dealer at the computer village, Ikeja, who resides at Igando, said a friend lured him into the business. “I used to be a successful businessman until I made a wrong investment three years ago in which I lost over N3.5m in China. As a result of the loss, I became indebted and was lured into drug trafficking by a friend,” Nwafor confessed.
Okonkwo, who claimed to have a Master’s degree in Innovative Management from the British Institute of Technology and E-Commerce in London and resides in East London blamed his lack of a job for his present predicament: “I was only trying to make ends meet. I live in East London where I had my post-graduate studies but joblessness turned me into another man. It was a tough decision for me to smuggle drugs but I really needed the £5000 I was offered. I feel bad that things have turned this way for me. It is like a dream.”
Both suspects who are said to be cooperating with narcotic investigators, would have been paid £4,000 (Nwafor) and £5,000 (Okonkwo), respectively had they successfully trafficked the drugs into Britain.
Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade attributed the involvement of a master’s degree holder in drug trafficking to moral decadence. “Parents should inculcate good morals in their children; I urge members of the public to eschew drug trafficking by joining the anti-drug abuse and trafficking crusade. Arrangements are in place for the suspects to be charged in line with the NDLEA Act,” he said.

Woman Arrested For Hiding Cocaine Inside Breast Implant

Spanish police arrested a Panamanian woman on Wednesday who landed in Barcelona from Bogota, Colombia with cocaine stuffed inside her breast implants.
photo
The woman was taken to the police at Barcelona's El Prat airport after her vague answers to questions about the reasons for her trip from Bogota raised suspicion at the border control, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
Spanish authorities carry out rigorous checks of passengers arriving on so-called "hot flights" from Latin America, to fight drug smuggling.
When border police discovered fresh scars and blood-stained gauze on the woman's chest she was taken to a nearby hospital to check her claim that she had recently undergone breast implant surgery.
The implants were found to carry 1.38 kg of cocaine.

Day students end-of-year party turned into clash with police

WhILE their counterparts in various primary and secondary schools across the country were celebrating their 2012 end-of- the-year party in grand style, this was not the case for some secondary schools’ children in Ajeromi/Ifelodun Local Government Area, Ajegunle, Lagos, as their party ended abruptly in a brawl with men of Ajegunle Divisional Police Headquarters, last Thursday.
Numbering about 3, 000 students, they gathered on Akerele and Otuniyo Streets in Awodi-Ora area of the community to celebrate what many of them described as a hitch-free first term of the 2012/2013 academic session, which was heralded by an annual Inter-House Sports Competition organized by Awodi-Ora Secondary School, Ajegunle.
Police and students clashed
According to a student, who resides in the community, but pleaded anonymity,  no fewer than 20 public secondary schools in the community had been invited by Awodi-Ora Secondary School for an inter-school relays competition. After the competition ended, some of the students who lived around hired a Disc-Jockey (DJ), who rented the air with musical jibes emanating from his loud speakers.
As the party took-off, he said that most of the students present, took to reckless consumption of alcohol, smoking of Indian hemps, cigarettes and sexual assault of the female folks in broad day light. These acts, he however, said did not go down well with some residents who alerted men of the Ajegunle Divisional Police Headquarters, who stormed the area in a Police hilux van to restore sanity to the community.
“To our surprise, the first team of policemen who stormed the scene of the party were cowed by the students that all was well, and they left, with the students continuing in their rendezvous. No less than an hour later, another team of policemen arrived the scene, in a yellow-marked Danfo bus, but were welcomed harshly by the students, who threw stones and broken bottles at them.”
According to him, the plain-clothed armed Policemen, numbering about six were enraged as the students had smashed the rear windscreen of their bus with stones and broken bottles.
“They came down, shooting sporadically into the air and with canisters to disperse the irate students,” he revealed.
However, when Vanguard Learning visited the community, the swift action of the Policemen had scared the students who took to their heels. The Police made some arrests, while taking away one of the loud speakers and other equipment used by the DJ to liven the party.

Kidnap gang leader’s mansion discovered in Delta
•Four suspects arrested by Lagos police over abduction of ex-minority leader and son
From Ngozi Uwujare, Ibadan
The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Lagos State police command has discovered a mansion suspected to belong to alleged kidnapping kingpin, Abanara (other names withheld).
The magnificent mansion on 15B Fokade Street, Okuatata, Effurun, Ugboro, stunned the SARS operatives, when they made the startling discovery. The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Umar Manko, told Crimewatch that Abanara (aka million)  and his gang had been declared wanted   over the kidnapping of former Lagos State House of Assembly  Minority Leader, Hon. Taofeek Adeniyi and his son in Lagos this year and taken  to Delta. Manko said that the command had successfully arrested four suspects; Raymond, Joel, Phillip and Osanmor (all first names withheld).
He said that  Osanmor sponsored them for kidnapping and masterminded the abduction of  the lawmaker and his son. He noted that the  kidnappers demanded N30million   from the Adeniyi family but they were able to collect N4milion. They collected it only for them to  hold on to his son who brought the money. He said  another huge money was paid before Adeniyi’s  son was released after being held hostage for two weeks.
Manko said that  the officer-in-charge of  SARS, Abba Kyari (SP), mounted surveillance on the house of the gang leader in Effurun. “We have four of kidnappers in our custody and they confessed that the mansion belonged to their gang leader and when we eventually  struck, the gang leader, Abanara, escaped  and we arrested  a member of the gang who always sponsored them anytime they wanted to carry out their operation.”
The name of the  suspect is Osanmor who told Crimewatch that “I am  part of the gang  that participated  in the kidnapping  of former Minority Leader of Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Adeniyi  and took him to Sapele. “I always gave out my  money to my gang which they  usually used to carry out the assignment sometimes, I gave out the sum  of N100,000. “Also, it was Abanara who is our gang leader and we usually called him after carrying out our operations, we used to share the money,” he said.
Another suspect, Raymond also said: “I am a member of the gang that kidnapped Hon. Adeniyi and my major role  was  provision of cars for the operation,” he said. CP Manko said that the police have  declared  total war on kidnappers in the state. He also said that the command was still investigating the case.
On the mansion which the gang leader built, he said: “We have declared Abanara wanted, promising that he will soon be arrested.”

10 students crushed to death, 50 vehicles damaged in Ogun

photo
Abeokuta — Emotions still run high, as Wednesday afternoon a truck rammed into a school building in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, killing no fewer than 10 students, while 50 vehicles were damaged.
An eyewitness, who was part of the rescue team before the arrival of officers of Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, says the accident involves students of Itori Comprehensive High School.
According to the source, the students had just closed for the day and were heading for their homes when the truck rammed into them.
The truck (plate number LAGOS YZ 628 AKD) was said to be coming from Abeokuta, the state capital, when it veered off the median and ran into the students.
Confirming the incident, Itori Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr. Fatai Bakare, however, said only five students were confirmed dead.
He said the driver lost control and veered off the road before it fell on the school pupils.
The inability of the local government to assist the injured angered the residents and parents of the victims, who then went on rampage. The residents of the area unleashed violence on motorists caught up in the ensuing traffic, who abandoned their vehicles in a bid to escape the melee. The vehicles, numbering up to 50, were thereafter vandalised.
Some of the protesters also complained about the late arrival of the security and rescue officials to the accident scene. Many motorists plying the road, located along the old Abeokuta-Lagos road, could not hold back tears on arriving at the scene.
The development prompted the Police to call for the services of an Amoured Personnel Carrier, APC, belonging to the Ogun State Command to restore order preparatory to the evacuation of victims.
Meantime, corpses of victims have been taken to the nearby morgue of the local government, while several injured students were reportedly rushed to Ifo General Hospital.

Man With No Face And Woman With One Leg Give Birth To Healthy Baby Girl 12 December, 2012

A father with no face who feared his unborn child would inherit his shocking condition is celebrating after his wife gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
Mohammad Latif Khatana, 32, and his wife Salima, 25, from Jammu and Kashmir in India, have been enjoying every moment with their newborn daughter.
Ulfat, meaning love in Urdu, was born naturally at home, in Reasi district, on November 10, weighing a healthy 5lbs 5oz.
As soon as Latif held his new daughter he quickly checked her over for any visible marks. But the new parents were overjoyed to find their little girl was healthy and unmarked.
Latif said: “I was extremely worried about my baby’s facial features. When I saw that she was pretty and fine, it was a great relief. She has a beautiful face, just like an angel.”
Latif explained his new daughter has brought joy into his life after years of misery because of his own disfigurement.
Latif suffers from a skin disorder, Neurofibromatosis, which means he has multiple flaps of skin covering his entire face, making him almost faceless.
He said: "I want to forget about my past life. Being a father is a new chapter in a man's life and I am embracing every second of it. I will enjoy it and I’ll now be a lot more worried about her than myself. I don’t care so much about me anymore."
When his wife Salima found out she was expecting, the pair suffered many sleepless nights worried whether Latif would pass on his condition.
Salima, who was born with just one foot, married Latif in August 2008. Latif struggled to find a wife for many years but when he met Salima, they bonded over their disabilities, and finally agreed to marry.
Latif said: "We had always wanted children but we were always too scared. In the end we took a chance but I prayed throughout the pregnancy that we had a healthy child. I didn’t care if it was a boy or girl as long as he or she didn’t have to hide its face in shame.
"When I finally heard my daughter’s cries, it was such a special moment, my heart was full of happiness."
Latif and Salima would like more children, but their financial problems might not allow it. "I thank god for blessing me with a beautiful daughter and we’d love more children. But I don’t earn enough. No parent would want their child to suffer any health problems, but they do not want them to suffer financially either."
Latif has taken to begging to support his family as his sight problems mean he cannot get a job. He travels to Kashmir's capital city, Srinagar, every year for several months to make enough money to send home.
"I don’t want to leave my daughter but I don’t have much choice and I will have to leave in the Spring. I have to earn money to support my family and this is the only way I can," he added.
Salima said Latif has been a wonderful husband and believes he will go on to make a great father.
She said: “No matter what Latif looks like, I love being married to him. I don’t regret one day as his wife. I like him just the way he is. His face is God’s wish, we can't do much with it so we accept it and live our lives.
“But thankfully it was not the same wish for our daughter. Our prayers were answered and our baby is fine. We refuse to waste another minute worrying about it now. We will live our lives, happily."
