Kidnap: Odiete, Oloton families express worry

BENIN CITY – Palpable fear has continued to grip members of the families of Benin-based Estate Valuer, Mr. Dan Odiete, and a businessman Mr. Omoruyi Oloton (Uyi Technical), and their sympathizers, as their abduction entered the 12th and 10th day respectively yesterday.

It will be recalled that Mr. Dan Odiete, and Mr. Omoruyi Oloton, the Managing Director, Uyi Technical Limited, Benin City, were abducted by unknown gunmen penultimate Wednesday and Friday, respectively in the state capital.

When The NIGERIAN OBSERVER visited the private homes of the two victims in the Government Reservation Area, Benin City yesterday, sympathizers wore forlorn looks.

It was gathered that the refusal of the gunmen to free the two victims has continued to create apprehension in the minds of their dependants and sympathisers.

Insider source hinted our reporter that the ransom demanded from the family of Mr. Omoruyi Oloton was paid about four days ago.

It further disclosed that the ransom said to have been paid in US Dollars was facilitated with the instructions given on the phone by the victim himself Mr. Omoruyi Oloton.

Although, the source claimed not to have been properly carried along by few members of the family involved in the negotiation bid, it however gathered that the victim is in touch with his family.

It was further gathered that the issue of negotiation remains shrouded in secrecy apparently in compliance with the terms of release dropped by the gunmen.

It could not be ascertained whether the Estate Valuer Mr. Dan Odiete’s family has paid any ransom as the group of persons seen during our visit discussed the issue in low tones.

However, a domestic staff at his gate appealed to our reporter that “please, help us pray make them release our Oga today (yesterday) makes it eleven days when he was kidnapped”.

Meanwhile, the state police command through its spokesman DSP Anthony Airhuoyo, had at the wake of the separate kidnap incidents, stated that the police are on top of the situation.
