A middle aged man was sentenced to 30
years imprisonment at a court in Mombasa for murder. According to the
judge the man had premeditated to kill his victim who is alleged to have
raped his wife.
Vunja Mugala Kirima appearing before
Justice Maureen Odero told the court that on January 3rd last year he
stabbed to death Andrew Masai Mongo after he raped his wife. In his
statement he said he was infuriated by the heinous act and acted out of
anger.
However Odero rubbished the testimony
saying that it was not substantial since Vunja did not call his wife to
attest to his testimony and this created doubts.
Odero
also pointed out that Vunja had confided in the assistant chief of
Kiwegu village that he was indeed responsible for the death of Masai.
Vunja
pleaded with the court for leniency in its judgment since he had a wife
and two children who looked up on him. However, Odero sentenced him to
30 years, and he was given 14 days to appeal his sentence.
